Laura Joyner Miller

My name is Laura Joyner. I am currently an intern at Grace River Christian Counseling, in the process of becoming a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. My onsite supervisor is Megan Cross, LMFT-S.

I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling at Liberty University. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I have taken all my classes for my degree and just have my internship here at Grace River to complete before earning my degree.

My most recent position was working as a nurse tech at the Hospital. Some shifts I would work as a Suicide sitter, meaning that I would sit with anyone who was suicidal to make sure that they did not harm themselves. One night when I worked as a suicide sitter, a girl who was suicidal talked to me for 12 hrs. After I listened to her life story, she proclaimed that I would be a great counselor. Her comment launched me into my journey to become a counselor. I have always had a deep desire to help others.

I love the Lord very deeply and try to love His people as best I can. I am happy to talk about Faith in our sessions and can just as easily exclude it from sessions. That decision is up to the client,. Each session will be 50 minutes long. My goal is to create a safe environment to meet clients where they are and allow them to process things in a judgement free zone.
