Neurofeedback

What is Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive therapy that focuses exclusively on the brain. It records what is happening inside the brain. Through treatments, the client is able to take direct control over the way their brain operates, shifting their brainwaves to a healthier functioning pattern.

Neurofeedback trains the brain to help strengthen brain functioning and expand its capacity. While medication only temporarily suppresses symptoms, neurofeedback allows the client to treat the source of their brain dysregulation or disorder which can lead to long-term improvement.

How does Neurofeedback work?

The brain is responsible for many functions like learning, emotional regulation, focus, executive functioning, sleep and wake cycles, and many other important functions. These functions are carried out as electrical current surge through the brain at varying locations and frequencies.

Neurofeedback relies on brain mapping to provide a clear view of where there may be irregularities or abnormal brain functioning. A brain mapping records the electrical activity of the brain, and is looking to identify if and where an individual’s brain is either under or over stimulated in relation to their same-age peers. Once the client’s brain has been mapped and any dysregulation has been identified, therapy can begin.

Neurofeedback therapy works by helping clients monitor and self-regulate their own brainwaves so that they can use the right kind of brainwaves when attempting to complete certain tasks.

To do this, sensors are placed on the client’s head, brainwaves are translated into visual and auditory representation, and the client’s learn to direct control over their brain’s functioning so that they can improve the way that their brain is operating.

What is Neurofeedback used for?

Neurofeedback can be used to treat multiple disorders, especially those related to stress and anxiety.

Clients with the following conditions may be able to experience significant improvements through neurofeedback treatment:

–          ADHD

–          Depression

–          Stress

–          Anxiety

–          PTSD

–          Panic Attacks

What are the benefits of Neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is effective in creating a positive impact on behavior, stress, mood, concentration, and focus. It is one of the safest possible methods to treat disorders such as stress/anxiety, and ADHD.

Behavioral issues can stem from other conditions such as ADHD and stress. Neurofeedback therapy helps clients improve their cognitive capacity by providing a method of self-regulation.

Neurofeedback has led to positive outcomes for clients with various anxiety and mood disorders including PTSD, anxiety, and depression. Neurofeedback has proven to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms.

How did Neurofeedback get started at Grace River?

In August of 2021, Grace River received a grant from the Butterfield Memorial Foundation in Oklahoma City to purchase Neurofeedback equipment. Through additional support from local churches and individual donors, Grace River was able to train for and launch a Neurofeedback program. Several of our master’s level team are currently pursuing certification under the mentorship of a BCIA certified supervisor.

Neurofeedback is a powerful tool to help the brain create new pathways, helping one to function at optimal levels. It is a leading-edge way to treat ADHD, Anxiety, Autism, PTSD, depression, memory challenges, and boost mental performance with proven results.

How does Neurofeedback connect with our faith?

Scripture tells us to take every thought captive to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). When our thoughts are not taken captive, unhealthy neuro pathways are created. Repeated over time, the unhealthy thoughts become beliefs, and the beliefs reinforce the pathways. The science of Neurofeedback pairs precisely with God’s Word.

When we…

RETRAIN the brain to create new neuro pathways and

INTEGRATE practical tools and

APPLY God’s Word to shape our thoughts and beliefs,

TRUE TRANSFORMATION can happen!
